Animal sacrifice, known as Qurbani or Udhiyah, is a deeply significant act in Islam performed during the days of Eid al-Adha. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to Allah's command. However, Allah replaced his son with a ram, symbolizing divine mercy. The sacrifice reflects devotion, humility, and charity. The meat from the sacrificed animal is typically divided into three parts: one-third for the family, one-third for friends and relatives, and one-third for those in need. This distribution promotes social welfare and ensures that the blessings of Eid are shared widely, especially with those who may not have regular access to nutritious food. Last year, your Qurbani donations brought relief and dignity to families in crisis across Asia and Africa — including communities in places such as Bangladesh, among Rohingya refugees, Uganda and beyond.
